Death Breath Interview

GB: Why someone should listen to Death Breath?
Robert: Hard for me to say as a member of the band. I guess I’m not that good on promoting myself. Why don’t you tell me instead?

GB: So, is Death Breath a side project after all?
Robert: No, we don’t do projects. All the stuff we do, we do whole-heartedly. We’ve just recorded a 7-track ep to be released this spring, after that we start work on the next album.

GB: Who does what in the band?
Nicke: Drums, guitar
Me: Guitar, vocals
Mange played bas on the album but has left us now.
Scott Carlson: guest vocals on the album and bas live
Jörgen Sandström guest vocals on the album.
Erik Wallin second guitar live

GB: You know man, when I first heard “Stinking up the Night”…there was an awful smell coming out of my speakers. Do you happen to know why?
Robert: Great, then we succeeded!

GB: Lyrically, from where do you dig your influences?
Robert: Old horror movies, books, Hp Lovecraft, all the good stuff.

GB: A more focused listener can discover that behind the brutal side of your death sound there is a rock n roll and a punk touch. Do you agree?
Robert: There’s a bit of punk in there, but I can’t hear any rock really. We write our songs with verse chorus verse instead of putting 15 riffs on top of each other, but our main concern is to play death metal from the early days in it’s purest form.

GB: Tell us about… the appearances of Jorgen Sandstrom (Grave, Entombed, Vicious Art etc.) and Scott Carlson (Repulsion)?
Robert: Nicke and I decided early on that we’d like a couple of different vocalists on the record. It brings a lot of variety, which is nice. Their names where the first ones we thought of cause we really like their work. Repulsion and Grave has meant really much to me so it was an honor to get to work with them.

GB: After the release of “Stinking up the Night” you have recorded a “single” featuring Markus Karlsson of I QUIT/ /Turpentines/Republikans on vocals. How did you manage to convince a punk rock ‘n’ roll singer to sing in a death metal band?
Robert: The single was out before the album actually. We’re friends with Marcus and knew that he had a good scream so we asked him and he came down to the studio and delivered. We like to work with different people.

GB: From how long before do you know Nicke? Are you a fan of Hellacopters or Entombed?
Robert: We’ve been friends for a couple of years now. But I of course knew about him from the Nihilist/Entombed days. I remember buying the Entombed demo and being totally blown away, I love that band! The same goes for The Hellacopters, great band and great people.

GB: What has been the reaction to the album so far? Do you care about reviews and sales?
Robert: From what I’ve seen it’s really positive, we got good reviews and such. Of course it’s nice when people appreciate your work, but we mainly did this for the love of the music and didn’t really think too much of anything else.

GB: What can we expect in the near future from Death Breath?
Robert: An EP will be out this spring, it will also contain the video for the song “Death Breath”. We’ve also recorded a couple of songs for a split single. We got material for the next album done, so we’ll start to record that sometime this year.

GB: Name some of you favorite bands of all time and some of the crapiest.
Great bands
AC/DC
The Band
Bathory
Death
Autopsy
Repulsion
I could go on forever, as you might know I listen to a lot of other music besides metal.
There’s no point in naming crappy bands really, opinions are like assholes right?

GB: Thanks for the interview. Do you have a last message for our readers?
Robert: Thanks a lot. Hope you enjoy our record and visit www.deathbreath.se for more info
